Spinster at last years St George's Day Events

Next weekend see’s the annual celebration of St George’s day take place in the Castle Grounds.

Whilst we all celebrate St Patricks Day, our own patron saint, St George doesn’t really get a look in.  Tamworth Borough Council are once again holding a weekend of events to celebrate St George’s day.

The Castle Ground will be took over Saturday April 24 and Sunday April 25, with numerous medieval goings on, parades and family entertainment.  The even better news is that (with the exception of the Castle based events) they are all free.

The events are:-

Saturday 24 April - Upper and Lower Lawn

  • Knight School, come try on armour look at weaponry and even take part in your very own Sword Class!
  • A full living history camp featuring various craft and military activities
  • A Manorial Court display
  • A Knight’s table display
  • A Mumming display

St. Editha’s Square
On the square with the church as the backdrop come and watch a children’s medieval open day and joust show. There will also be a Candle Maker, Barber Surgeon, Moneyer, Astrologer and Casting. Also step inside the medieval church and take a look at one of Tamworth’s most prestigious buildings.

The George and Dragon Puppet Theatre

On the Sunday in the square come try your luck on our gladiator and cross bow challenge.

Inside the Town Hall:

Step into the magnificent Town Hall for period story telling.

All weekend the Castle will be running reduced admission (£3 for adults and £1.50 concession) where you can see a knights table, craft work and a range of other activities in the castle.
