Fire Engine in Tamworth

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are appealing for anyone with any information following a large grass fire in Bolehall on Sunday (16 May) evening, which the Fire service believe was started on purpose.

The Fire Service received the call to the large grass fire shortly after 8.35pm.  The incident was attended by two fire engines from Lichfield, one from Tamworth and another crew from Warwickshire, with fire-fighters spending over two hours tackling the blaze which covered some 600 square meters.  A crew from Lichfield returned to the spot twice yesterday (Monday 17 May) to ensure no smouldering hot spots remained.

Fire-fighters from Tamworth, Cannock and Lichfield were again called to attend another fire in the same location on Monday afternoon (17 May) at about 1.45pm.

Area Commander for Tamworth, Del Roberts said:

“The land is extremely dry and so we’d urge people to always take extra care in the countryside. In particular we’d ask people to ensure their cigarettes are fully out and also avoid starting open fires, as they can very quickly get out of control.

“For every deliberately started grass fire we deal with, it means that firefighters are not available to attend other incidents, some of which could be life threatening.”

If you have any information relating to either of the incidents which are both believed to have been started on purporse, you are asked to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
